CLIMATE PROTECTION IS A RESPONSIBILITY WE TAKE SERIOUSLY
As a consulting company driving digitalization and innovation, we know sustainability starts with us. That’s why we’ve been offsetting the CO₂ emissions of all our employees together through atmosfair since 2022 — well-founded, transparent, and demonstrably effective. Our current offset per person is around 11,000 kg CO₂ per year. That’s slightly more than the average per capita CO2 footprint in Germany (as of 2025).
Why atmosfair? Why not just plant trees?
Of course, we could have gone with classic reforestation projects — they’re considerably cheaper and many companies choose them. But for us, that’s not enough. Forests take decades to actually bind CO₂, and risks like fires, drought, or logging can undo that effect quickly. Reforestation is and remains important — but it doesn’t meet our definition of sustainable climate protection.
That’s why we invest specifically in atmosfair’s certified projects:
Here, CO₂ is avoided directly at the source — through renewable energy, efficient technologies, or clean infrastructure. These projects are independently audited, measurably effective, and often considerably more expensive than classic forest certificates. For us, what counts is real impact over a feel-good fix.
What makes for good climate protection?
We follow clear criteria:
- Priority on avoidance and reduction: the best climate protection is not creating emissions in the first place. Offsetting is always only the second step.
- Measurable and verifiable impact: projects must clearly demonstrate how much CO₂ is actually saved or avoided.
- Long-term security: climate protection can’t be a flash in the pan — we look for lasting impact and low risk of reversal or loss.
- Additionality: only projects that wouldn’t be realized without offset funding really count.
- Independent verification: we rely on standards like Gold Standard or CDM, which ensure regular external audits.
- Transparency: disclosing project goals, methods, and results is mandatory for us.
We know: avoiding is better than offsetting
We’re not fooling ourselves — the best path is always avoiding and reducing emissions in our own actions and across the value chain. Offsetting can’t and shouldn’t replace that. That’s why we’re working in parallel to continuously shrink our own footprint — in our projects, in the office, and in how we use resources.

Our contribution supports projects including:
- Efficient cookstoves for families in Nigeria
(up to 80% less energy consumption and direct relief for people and the environment) - Power generation from crop residues in India
(avoiding methane and providing sustainable energy for rural regions) - Biogas plants for households in Kenya
(reduced wood consumption, better air quality, and local economic value)

Our takeaway
We’d rather invest more money in projects that demonstrably avoid emissions than buy ourselves a good feeling with seemingly cheap but often unreliable certificates. Responsibility doesn’t end with the client project for us — and we don’t just talk about it, we act on it.
